Psalm 115:1-3 ESV
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?” Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.
Psalm 115:1–3 redirects our attention away from ourselves and back to God. The psalmist refuses to claim glory for human achievement: “Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory.” Everything good in our lives ultimately points to God’s steadfast love and faithfulness, not our own ability, reputation, or success.
The passage also reminds us that God is not limited by what people can see or understand: “Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.” When circumstances are confusing or God seems quiet, His sovereignty has not changed. Our role is to trust Him, seek His glory rather than our own, and remain faithful even when we cannot yet see what He is doing.
Daily application: Before taking credit for something that goes well today, pause and thank God for His provision, guidance, and grace. Ask, “How can this point people toward Him rather than toward me?”
