Romans 2:3 ESV
“Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?
Romans 2:3 reminds us that it is easy to recognize sin in others while overlooking the same weaknesses in ourselves. Paul warns against the false confidence that we can judge others yet somehow escape God’s judgment. God sees beyond appearances and evaluates every heart with perfect truth.
For believers, this verse calls us to humility and honest self-examination. Rather than focusing first on what others need to change, we should ask God to reveal where our own attitudes and actions need repentance. Grace should make us less judgmental, not more—because we know how deeply we ourselves depend on God’s mercy.
Daily application: Before criticizing someone today, pause and pray, “Lord, show me what You want to change in me first.”
