Daily Verse

Romans 8:8 reminds us that a life governed by our natural desires, ambitions, and self-will cannot produce the kind of life God desires. Paul is not saying that believers must earn God’s love by being good enough. Rather, he is drawing a clear distinction between living according to the flesh and living under the direction of the Holy Spirit. A heart centered on self will naturally resist God, while a heart surrendered to Him seeks His will and desires to honor Him.

For believers, this verse is an invitation to examine what is directing our choices each day. We will still struggle with selfish desires, but we are no longer powerless against them. Through the Holy Spirit, we can choose obedience over impulse, humility over pride, and God’s purposes over our own preferences. The Christian life is not about trying harder in our own strength; it is about surrendering more fully to the Spirit who enables us to live in a way that pleases God.
