Daily Verse

This verse calls us to an undivided devotion to God. To “fear” the Lord is not simply to be afraid of Him, but to live with reverence, awe, and a deep recognition of His rightful authority over our lives. That reverence naturally leads to service: when God holds first place in our hearts, obedience becomes the expression of our worship.

Jesus later quoted this passage when Satan tempted Him to compromise His allegiance to the Father (Matthew 4:10). His response reminds us that worship is demonstrated not only by what we say or sing, but by whom we choose to obey when competing priorities arise.

Application: Consider what receives your greatest loyalty, attention, and obedience. Career, comfort, approval, possessions, and even good relationships can quietly compete for the place that belongs to God alone. Ask: Does the way I live demonstrate that God is truly first?

Prayer: Lord, give me an undivided heart that reveres You, serves You faithfully, and refuses to give anything else the place that belongs to You. Let my choices today reflect that You alone are worthy of my worship and allegiance. Amen.
