John 15:18-19 ESV
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
Jesus never promised His followers universal acceptance. Instead, He prepared them for the reality that a life devoted to Him will often stand in contrast to the values, priorities, and beliefs of the world. While Christians are called to love others and live peaceably whenever possible, faithfulness to Christ may still bring misunderstanding, rejection, or opposition. Our identity is no longer rooted in the world’s approval but in the One who has chosen and redeemed us.
Rather than becoming discouraged by resistance, we can see it as an opportunity to reflect the character of Christ. Jesus responded to hostility with truth, grace, and unwavering obedience to the Father. As His disciples, we are called to do the same—remaining humble, loving our enemies, and standing firm in the gospel. Our goal is not to blend into the world but to shine as lights within it, pointing others to the hope that is found in Christ alone.
