Psalm 86:5 ESV
For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.
Psalm 86:5 reminds us that God’s character is the foundation of our confidence in prayer: He is good, forgiving, and overflowing in steadfast love toward those who call upon Him. David approaches God not because he deserves an answer, but because he knows who God is. Our failures do not exhaust His mercy; when we sincerely turn to Him, we find a Father who is ready to forgive and abundant in grace.
This verse encourages us to call on God freely and consistently. We do not need to wait until we have everything together before approaching Him. Whether we need forgiveness, direction, strength, or simply His presence, God invites us to come. Today, I can pray with confidence—not because of my goodness, but because the Lord is good, merciful, and faithful in love.
