Psalm 22:9-10 ESV

Yet you are he who took me from the womb; you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts. On you was I cast from my birth, and from my mother’s womb you have been my God.

These verses provide a beautiful contrast within Psalm 22. Although David is surrounded by suffering and feels abandoned, he intentionally remembers God’s lifelong faithfulness. He reflects on the Lord’s care from the very beginning of his life, recognizing that God has been present since birth. This remembrance strengthens his faith in the midst of present trials. For believers today, these verses remind us that our relationship with God is not defined solely by our current circumstances but by His unchanging covenant faithfulness throughout every season of our lives.

Psalm 22 also points forward to Jesus Christ, who quoted this psalm from the cross and perfectly fulfilled its message. Even in His deepest suffering, the Father had been faithful to Him from the beginning, and through Christ’s death and resurrection, we too can confidently entrust our lives to God. When we face seasons of uncertainty, it is wise to look back and remember the countless ways God has sustained us. His past faithfulness gives us confidence that He will continue to carry us, just as He has from the very beginning.
