Romans 7:6 ESV
But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.
Paul reminds us that through Christ, believers have been set free from the bondage of trying to earn God’s favor through keeping the law. Because we have died with Christ and been raised to new life, our relationship with God is no longer defined by obligation or fear, but by grace. We are now empowered by the Holy Spirit to live lives that please God—not through our own strength, but through His transforming presence within us.
This verse calls us to examine our motives for serving God. Are we driven by guilt, duty, or a desire to prove ourselves? Or are we responding with gratitude to the grace we have received? The Christian life is not about external rule-keeping but about inward transformation. As we walk daily in dependence on the Holy Spirit, our obedience becomes a joyful expression of love for the One who has set us free.
