Romans 6:23 presents one of the clearest summaries of the gospel in all of Scripture. Sin earns a wage—a payment we deserve—and that payment is spiritual death and separation from God. In contrast, eternal life cannot be earned through good works or moral effort. It is God’s gracious gift, made possible only through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. What we could never achieve on our own, God freely offers through His Son.

This verse invites us to live each day with both humility and gratitude. We remember that our salvation rests not on our performance but on God’s grace. As recipients of such an undeserved gift, we are called to turn away from sin and live in joyful obedience, reflecting the new life we have received in Christ.
