Romans 4:23–25 ESV

But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

Romans 4:23–25 reminds us that the account of Abraham’s faith was not written merely as history—it was written for us. Just as Abraham was counted righteous because he believed God’s promise, we too are declared righteous through faith in Jesus Christ. Our standing before God does not depend on our own efforts or moral performance, but on trusting the finished work of Christ, who fulfilled everything necessary for our salvation. These verses also beautifully summarize the gospel: Jesus “was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.” His death paid the penalty for our sin, and His resurrection is the Father’s declaration that Christ’s sacrifice was accepted in full. Because He lives, believers can live with confidence, knowing that their forgiveness is secure and their hope is certain. Each day, we are invited to rest not in what we have done for God, but in what God has accomplished for us through His risen Son.
