Daily Verse

Jesus’ words seem surprising because mourning is not something we naturally associate with blessing. Yet He teaches that those who grieve—whether over personal sin, the brokenness of the world, suffering, loss, or the effects of living in a fallen creation—are not forgotten by God. He draws near to the hurting and promises His comfort.

For believers today, this verse reminds us that faith does not require us to hide our sorrow or pretend everything is fine. Christians can bring their grief honestly before God, trusting that He sees every tear and cares deeply for His children. Mourning can also produce a greater dependence on Christ and a deeper longing for His coming kingdom, where all things will be made new.

The promise is not merely that comfort is available, but that comfort is certain. God comforts us now through His presence, His Word, His people, and His Spirit, and one day He will bring complete comfort when Christ returns.

Application: When you experience grief, disappointment, or conviction over sin, bring it to God rather than carrying it alone. Trust that the Lord who sees your sorrow is also the One who promises lasting comfort and hope.
