Proverbs 6:20-22 ESV
My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you.
Proverbs 6:20–22 (ESV) reminds us of the value of godly instruction and faithful guidance: “My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching…” Solomon paints a picture of wisdom not as a burden, but as a trusted companion. Godly truth, planted in us through Scripture and wise voices, protects us, guides us, and steadies us through life’s decisions. When we treasure biblical wisdom in our hearts, it becomes a light for moments of confusion and a guardrail against harmful paths.
A practical application is to ask: What truth from God’s Word am I intentionally carrying with me each day? Whether through Scripture memory, prayer, or recalling godly counsel, God’s wisdom can “lead” us when making decisions, “watch over” us in difficulty, and “talk with” us through conviction and encouragement. The more we keep His truth close, the more it shapes our steps.
