Proverbs 29:27 ESV

An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, but one whose way is straight is an abomination to the wicked.

Proverbs 29:27 (ESV) reminds us that there is often a deep tension between those who pursue righteousness and those who reject God’s ways: “An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, but one whose way is straight is an abomination to the wicked.” This verse acknowledges a difficult reality—living with integrity will not always earn approval. In fact, godly character may expose or unsettle those who prefer compromise or injustice.

For believers today, this verse is a reminder not to be discouraged when standing for truth creates friction or misunderstanding. Jesus Himself warned that His followers would often stand in contrast to the values of the world. Rather than seeking acceptance at all costs, we are called to walk uprightly with humility, grace, and conviction, trusting that honoring God matters more than pleasing people. Faithfulness may not always be applauded, but it is always seen by God.
