1 Corinthians 2:2-5 ESV

For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

In these verses, the Apostle Paul reminds us that the foundation of faith is not human eloquence, intellect, or personal ability—it is Jesus Christ and His saving work on the cross. Though Paul was highly educated, he intentionally centered his message on Christ crucified rather than trying to impress people with persuasive speech. He came humbly, dependent on God’s Spirit rather than his own strength.

This passage is especially encouraging because it shows that God often works most powerfully through our weakness. We do not need to have perfect words, great confidence, or all the answers to be used by Him. Whether teaching, serving, encouraging others, or sharing our faith, the goal is not to point people to ourselves but to Christ. Faith that lasts is built on God’s power, not human wisdom.

Practical ApplicationWhen facing opportunities to teach, lead, or encourage others, resist the pressure to rely solely on preparation, personality, or performance. Prepare faithfully, but pray expectantly. Ask God to let His Spirit work through your words so that people are drawn not to you, but to Jesus. Sometimes the most impactful ministry comes through humble authenticity and dependence on God rather than polished perfection.
