Luke 16:9 ESV
And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.
Luke 16:9 is one of Jesus’ more challenging teachings because it forces us to think differently about money and possessions. Jesus is not praising dishonesty; He is emphasizing wisdom and eternal perspective. Earthly wealth is temporary, but it can be used in ways that have lasting spiritual impact. Resources, opportunities, and influence are tools entrusted to us by God, and how we use them reveals what we truly value.
Practically, this verse calls believers to invest in things that matter eternally — generosity, ministry, helping others, supporting the spread of the gospel, and building relationships that honor God. Money easily becomes an idol when it is used only for personal comfort or status, but Jesus teaches that it can also become an instrument for eternal good. Wise stewardship means seeing every blessing not merely as something to consume, but as something that can point people toward God and reflect His kingdom
