Hebrews 1:3-4 ESV
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
Hebrews 1:3-4 presents Jesus in breathtaking clarity. He is described as “the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature,” meaning that when we look at Christ, we see the very character and heart of God revealed perfectly. Jesus is not merely a teacher or prophet pointing toward God—He is God made known to us. The passage also reminds us that He “upholds the universe by the word of his power,” showing that the same Savior who died for our sins is also sustaining all creation even now.
These verses also highlight the completed work of Christ. After making “purification for sins,” Jesus sat down at the right hand of Majesty, signifying that His sacrifice was sufficient and final. There is no unfinished work left for salvation. Because Christ is supreme over all, including the angels, believers can rest confidently in His authority, His power, and His grace. In seasons of uncertainty, Hebrews 1:3-4 calls us to fix our eyes on Jesus—the glorious Savior who both sustains the universe and secures our redemption.
