Exodus 20:8-10 ESV

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.

Exodus 20:8–10 reminds us to “remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” In a world that constantly pushes for more—more work, more output, more noise—God commands something countercultural: intentional rest. This isn’t just about stopping activity; it’s about setting apart time that belongs to Him.

The Sabbath exposes a deeper issue in us. We often tie our worth to productivity, acting as if everything depends on our effort. But God’s command to rest is an invitation to trust—that He is in control even when we are not working. It realigns our priorities, reminding us that we are not slaves to our schedules but people created to worship, reflect, and be renewed.

There’s also a communal aspect—this rest extends to everyone under our influence. It calls us to lead lives that don’t just demand more from others but create space for restoration.
