1 Thessalonians 1:4-5 ESV
For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
1 Thessalonians 1:4–5 reminds us that our faith is not meant to be uncertain or lifeless—it is meant to be evident. Paul affirms that the believers are “loved by God” and “chosen,” not because of outward perfection, but because the gospel came to them with power, conviction, and transformation. The proof of God’s work in their lives wasn’t just what they heard, but how they responded.
This challenges us to examine our own lives. Has the gospel merely informed us, or has it truly changed us? When God’s Word takes root, it produces visible fruit—conviction in our hearts, courage in our actions, and consistency in how we live. Faith that is real doesn’t stay private; it shows up in how we speak, serve, and endure.
The encouragement here is clear: if God has called you, He is actively working in you. But the responsibility is just as real—don’t settle for a passive faith. Lean into the power of the gospel daily, and let your life become living evidence that God is at work within you.
