Proverbs 3:35 ESV
The wise will inherit honor, but fools get disgrace.
Proverbs 3:35 reminds us that the end of a person’s path reveals the true weight of their life: “The wise will inherit honor, but fools get disgrace.” This verse draws a clear line between two ways of living—not just in behavior, but in outcome. Wisdom, rooted in reverence for God and lived out through humility, integrity, and obedience, leads to lasting honor. This isn’t merely public recognition, but a deep, God-given dignity that stands both now and into eternity.
In contrast, folly may appear unnoticed or even rewarded for a time, but it ultimately results in shame. It exposes a life disconnected from God’s truth. The challenge for us is to think beyond immediate results and consider the long-term fruit of our choices. Are we pursuing wisdom in how we speak, decide, and live? Honor is not something we chase directly—it is something we inherit when we consistently choose the way of wisdom.
