Psalm 150:1-2 ESV

Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!

Psalm 150 opens with a clear and compelling call: “Praise the Lord!” It immediately directs our attention both where to praise Him—in His sanctuary and in His mighty heavens—and why—for His mighty deeds and according to His excellent greatness.

This reminds us that worship is not confined to a place; it stretches from the gathered church to the expanse of all creation. Whether in a quiet moment alone or among a congregation, praise belongs to God everywhere. More importantly, our praise is rooted not in our circumstances, but in who God is and what He has done. His works—seen in creation, redemption, and daily provision—give us endless reason to lift our voices.

There’s also a needed correction here: praise isn’t optional for the believer; it’s a fitting response. When we remember God’s greatness, gratitude should naturally rise. If it doesn’t, it may be because we’ve lost sight of His works or become too focused on ourselves.

Application:

Take a moment today to intentionally recall specific ways God has been faithful to you. Don’t keep it internal—express it. Speak it, sing it, or write it down. Let your praise be as expansive as His greatness deserves.
