1 Peter 3:10-11 ESV
For Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
1 Peter 3:10–11 draws a clear connection between the life we want and the life we choose to live. It tells us that if we desire to “love life and see good days,” it starts with guarding our words and turning away from evil. That’s direct and practical—our speech and our actions shape the quality of our lives more than we often admit. A careless tongue can tear down relationships, while disciplined words can bring peace and life.
But it doesn’t stop at avoidance. We’re called to actively “seek peace and pursue it.” That means peace isn’t passive—it requires effort, humility, and sometimes restraint when everything in us wants to react. This passage challenges us to take responsibility: if we want a life marked by goodness, we have to align our words, choices, and pursuits with God’s ways. Peace isn’t found by accident; it’s built on purpose.
