2 Corinthians 7:10 ESV
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
2 Corinthians 7:10 (ESV) reminds us that not all sorrow is the same—there is a kind that leads to life, and a kind that leads to destruction. Godly grief is not just feeling bad about sin; it is a Spirit-led conviction that turns our hearts back toward God. It produces repentance—a real change of direction—and ultimately leads to salvation without regret. In contrast, worldly grief is self-focused. It may feel intense, but it stops short of transformation, often leading to shame, guilt, or spiritual stagnation.
This verse challenges us to examine how we respond when we are confronted with our sin. Do we merely feel remorse, or do we allow that conviction to draw us closer to God in humility and surrender? True repentance is a gift—it frees us, restores us, and realigns us with God’s grace. Rather than running from conviction, we can embrace it, knowing that through godly sorrow, God is working not to condemn us, but to redeem and transform us.
