Acts 20:24 ESV

But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

In Acts 20:24, Paul declares that he does not count his life as valuable to himself if only he may finish his course and the ministry he received from the Lord Jesus—to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. This is the language of a man who has settled his priorities. Paul isn’t reckless; he’s resolved. His identity, security, and purpose are anchored in Christ, not comfort or safety. For believers today, this verse confronts our tendency to measure life by ease, success, or longevity. The real question is not, “How do I preserve my life?” but “How do I pour it out faithfully?” A life centered on the gospel frees us from self-preservation and focuses us on obedience. When our aim is to finish well and testify clearly to God’s grace, fear loses its grip and purpose becomes our driving force.
