Luke 6:27 ESV
But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
In Luke 6:27, Jesus gives one of the most countercultural commands in all of Scripture: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” This isn’t passive tolerance—it’s active grace. Jesus calls us to respond to hostility not with retaliation, but with intentional goodness. That kind of love doesn’t come naturally; it flows from a heart transformed by the mercy we ourselves have received. When we choose to love those who oppose us, we reflect the character of Christ, who loved us while we were still far from Him. Loving enemies doesn’t mean approving of wrong—it means refusing to let hatred shape our response. It is a daily decision to let God’s love be stronger than our pride.
