1 Peter 4:16 ESV
Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name.
In 1 Peter 4:16, believers are told that if they suffer “as a Christian,” they are not to be ashamed but to glorify God in that name. There is a difference between suffering for wrongdoing and suffering for faithfulness. Peter reminds us that opposition, rejection, or misunderstanding because we belong to Christ is not a mark of failure but a badge of identification. The temptation is to shrink back, to soften our witness, or to blend in to avoid discomfort. But this verse calls us to stand firm without embarrassment. When we endure hardship for Christ with humility and courage, our response becomes an act of worship, declaring that His name is worth more than our comfort.
