Psalm 78:7-8 ESV

…so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Psalm 78:7–8 calls God’s people to live with intentional faith - faith that remembers, trusts, and obeys. The psalm contrasts a hope anchored in God with the tragic pattern of forgetting His works and resisting His ways. When one generation fails to remember, the next is shaped more by stubbornness than by faithfulness.

For believers today, this passage is both a warning and a calling. Spiritual drift rarely comes from open rebellion; it often begins with neglect—forgetting what God has done and loosening our grip on His commands. A steadfast heart is formed not by good intentions alone, but by a practiced, intentional remembrance of God’s faithfulness that leads to obedient trust. And such trust impacts the generation that follows.
