Hebrews 4:9-11 ESV
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.
Hebrews 4:9–11 reminds believers that God’s promised rest is not merely a past event or a future hope—it is a present invitation. This “Sabbath rest” is found in trusting Christ rather than continually striving to earn God’s approval through our own efforts. Just as God rested from His works, we are called to rest from self-reliance and to live by faith and obedience.
Yet this rest is not passive. The call to “strive” to enter God’s rest highlights the seriousness of faith that listens and responds to God’s word. True rest comes when believers diligently trust, obey, and remain anchored in God’s promises, resisting unbelief. In Christ, rest and perseverance belong together—peace rooted in faith, expressed through faithful obedience.
