Proverbs 22:17-18 ESV
Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge, for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
Proverbs 22:17–18 invites us to lean in and listen—to incline our ear toward wise counsel and allow it to take root in our hearts. Wisdom in Scripture is not passive information; it is truth meant to be received, treasured, and lived out. The promise of these verses is clear: when wisdom is kept within us, it becomes a steady guide, ready on our lips and evident in our lives.
Following wise counsel requires humility. It asks us to admit that we do not see everything clearly on our own and that God often shapes and directs us through the insight of others grounded in His truth. This posture protects us from rash decisions and aligns us with paths that lead to life and peace.
These verses remind us that wisdom brings joy and stability when it is internalized and practiced. As we choose to listen attentively and apply what we have learned, our trust in the Lord is strengthened, and our lives become a testimony to the goodness of walking in step with His wisdom.
