1 Peter 3:18 ESV

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit

1 Peter 3:18 reflects the heart of the gospel: Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God. Jesus’ suffering was not accidental or repeated—it was purposeful and all sufficient. His righteousness stands in stark contrast to our sinfulness. Yet, he willingly took our place so that the barrier between God and man could be removed. Through His death in the flesh and resurrection by the Spirit, we are given new access to God—not through our works , but through Christ’s finished work. This verse invites us to live with hearts filled with deep gratitude and confidence, knowing we are fully reconciled and brought near to God by His amazing Grace.
