Luke 2:15-18 ESV
“When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them.”
The day after Christmas invites us to consider what happens once the angels are gone and the wonder settles into obedience. The shepherds did not linger in the fields debating what they had heard; they went “with haste” to see the child the Lord had made known to them. Their response reminds us that genuine encounter with Christ leads to movement—faith expressed in action.
Having seen Jesus, the shepherds became the first witnesses of the good news, telling all they had experienced. Though ordinary and overlooked, God entrusted them with an extraordinary message. As Christmas passes, this passage calls us to carry what we have seen and heard into everyday life, trusting that God still uses willing hearts to spread the joy of Christ.
