Luke 1:26-28 ESV
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”
Luke 1:26–28 reveals that Advent begins with God graciously stepping into ordinary human life, as the angel Gabriel is sent to a humble young woman in Nazareth. Mary’s greeting—“O favored one, the Lord is with you”—highlights that the coming of Christ is rooted in God’s unearned grace and divine initiative, not human status or power. Advent invites us, like Mary, to receive God’s presence with humility and faith as He fulfills His redemptive promises.
